Reflections
As we go through life, we take on challenges and opportunities that we feel maybe just happen to us by random occurrence. The speeding driver jumped in our lane without a turn signal or someone held the door open for you while it was raining. Some maybe good and some bad but it is only after the experience that we can truly reflect on what we just went through. Some people may not take the time to reflect, reveal the experience, and learn from the lesson. This post will try to highlight this part of an experience to better help you understand life’s funny way of teaching.
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see someone that you respect, love, and willing to do anything for? Or do you see someone that needs work, just can’t get it right, and makes things more complicated than should be? By looking at our reflection, we may all see some things that we like to change but the point is we are able to point out that made up flaw, highlight it in our minds, and process the thought of making it better.
This is a process that can be done with our lives as well. Reflect on an experience that you just went through or are going through. I knew a person once that I worked with that hated his job with every ounce of his being. But he continued to go through with the stress that he dealt with daily and come back to work. He complained while he was there and complained about it while he was on an off day. Nothing ever went right in his mind even when we had luncheons. The food wasn’t cooked right or had enough seasoning for him.
This individual needed to take a deep look at his reflection, within himself, and try to figure out why he did not like the job so much. Was it the job or was it him? Was he upset with where he was in life? Was he upset because he felt like he would lose everything by starting over? I hope he can do this for himself because he was still there when I left.
So take a moment and look into a mirror or anything that can give you a reflection of yourself. If you are having trouble seeing your reflection, picture yourself in your mind. What is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is something you see that you want to fix and change? Or is it something you see that you congratulate yourself on? Now reflect on those thoughts for a second… Now ask yourself, am I looking for flaws to fix and change or am I looking to build upon myself?
For example, if I were to look in the mirror, I will notice or look to see if my beard needs to be trimmed and lined up. That is something that I am looking to adjust most of the time. I’m looking for perfection at that point. I’ve been growing it for years and still happy about the length. Some may view this as not being satisfied with yourself and that is okay if that is what you see. But in my mind, I am looking to build on to an accomplishment rather than look at it as something I don’t like.
Transitioning this thought process to my life, I see myself as where I am in life based on my decisions and my growth from staying persistent with my goals. I am also seeing a person that is becoming into his own by creating and building for a more comfortable life. I’m patting myself on the back at this point.
You can’t become the person that you wish to become without first reflecting and learning from your experiences through life. This opportunity will allow you to learn about yourself as well as what motivates you to get you to your next level. With that being said, I do hope you appreciate our site, learn a great deal, and focus on building yourself for the person that you are to become. Thank you in advance and for your time!
