Can I Really Work For Myself?
Have you ever thought about becoming your own boss? I mean really thought about creating an action plan to make it happen? Some of us have and some of us may just dream about it. Because we have all been there… If I were the boss, I would do it this way. If I were in charge, everyone would love to work for me. But have you considered all the decisions that have to be made? Working for yourself can be a gift for some and a curse for others if you don’t have the proper mindset before beginning. But in this post, I would like to share a few things with you to consider if you truly want to make this dream into a reality.
How motivated are you?
Find that motivation you need to keep going even if you feel like quitting. You have to remember your why… Why are you doing this? Why are you so driven, at times, to become your own boss and work for yourself? If you have a job or position that mentally drains you, keep that for motivation, write it down on a sticky pad or dry erase board. If you hate the commute to work and have a business that can be ran from remotely, make a note on how much gas money you can save and traffic jams you can avoid. Imagine these points that you write down as your fire that you have to keep lit. I mean who really does want to think about something so negative but you must use this a fuel.
This is your fuel to keep that fire burning to create the opportunity for yourselves. Keep telling yourself, “I don’t want to continue this and stay where I am!” “I know I can do what I love if I am constantly doing what I don’t!” You can come up with your own phrases but you get the point. Motivate yourself and keep your fuel ready to pour into your fire if you have to.
Are you willing to work harder or longer for yourself than you would a typical 9 to 5 job?
Unlike the job, you may not have several departments that can break the tasks and goals down into separate areas. You are in complete control of all the decisions that your business has to make and this may require more time out of your day until you can delegate the work to others. In order to delegate work to others, we must have an idea of what we are assigning to someone else. You are in the process of creating a culture under your brand and with that has to come experience. Once you have an idea about how to do a particular job within your company, then you would know what you would want in a person or service as a replacement.
With a job, you can work the 8 or 12 hour shift, go home, and kick your feet up. This is just a metaphor but you get the point. Your work can be left at the job and when you get home, that is your time to do what you feel like doing. Working on your own business on the other hand may require more time than that for the most part. There may not be any consistent income at first and with your hands in each facet of your business, chances are you will be taking the work home. Some people are comfortable with just working the hours at a job, making the money, and going home while leaving the work at the job. Nothing wrong with this mindset and when some people realize that this may be their comfort zone, they will feel better. Everyone isn’t meant to work for themselves and it isn’t something that should be pressured on to them.
What is your passion?
This is where the find your passion to create your own business comes in to play. When people tell you that if it’s your passion it will not be like work. This is half true and not looking at it from the full picture. Yes you have to have some kind of passion about what you are doing but it may not be your business. You may be passionate about not having to punch in at the job anymore. You may be passionate about spending more time with your family once you get the business running. You may be passionate about removing yourself from your current lifestyle into the vision and dream that you see for yourself. These are all passions that may not have anything to do with your business in particular, but you are passionate about something to keep yourself going.
You are the creator of your own reality and once you understand this, you would be more accepting to your current situation or the life that you are in the process of creating. You may not like everything about your business, but if it is your vehicle to your passion, keep persevering….
With that being said, I do hope you appreciate our site, learn a great deal, and focus on building yourself for the person that you are to become. Thank you in advance and for your time!
